Effective: August 2, 2026
Developer / data controller: Evans Mutwiri Contact: [email protected] App: Bestå (com.mynorskvenn.app) — AI-powered Norwegian language
training for Norskprøven A1–A2.
Bestå is designed to be private by default. The app has no user accounts, no analytics SDKs, no advertising SDKs, and no server operated by the developer that stores your personal data. Everything the app knows about you lives on your device.
The following is stored locally on your phone (Android app storage / SharedPreferences) and never leaves your device except as described in Section 2:
You can erase all of this at any time via Android Settings → Apps → Bestå → Clear storage, or by uninstalling the app.
Bestå generates lessons and grades free-text answers using a large-language-model provider that you choose and supply your own API key for. Supported providers:
When the app requests a lesson or grades an answer, it transmits over HTTPS to that provider:
This data is processed by the provider under their privacy policy and API terms, using your API key and account with them. The developer of Bestå never sees, receives, stores, or has access to this data or your API key. Choose the provider whose terms you are comfortable with; you can switch providers at any time in Settings.
Planned change (Bestå Pluss): a future version may offer an optional built-in AI quota routed through a proxy server operated by the developer, so that no API key is needed. If introduced, requests will carry a random per-device token (no name, no email), the proxy will keep only daily request counts for rate-limiting, and this policy will be updated before launch.
Speaking exercises use Android’s built-in speech recognizer
(SpeechRecognizer) with your permission (RECORD_AUDIO). Audio is
processed by the speech service configured on your device (typically
Google’s); Bestå receives only the recognized text, uses it to grade
the exercise, and does not store the audio. You can deny or revoke the
microphone permission and still use every non-speaking feature of the
app.
Text-to-speech for listening exercises runs entirely on your device via Android’s TTS engine.
Daily study reminders and streak alerts are scheduled and posted locally on your device (Android WorkManager / AlarmManager). No notification data leaves the device. You can decline the notification permission or disable reminders in Settings.
None. Bestå contains no telemetry. The developer receives no usage data, crash reports, identifiers, or personal information from the app. (Google Play may provide the developer with aggregated, anonymized install and crash statistics collected by Android itself, governed by Google Play’s terms.)
Bestå is an exam-preparation tool intended for users aged 13 and older. It does not knowingly collect personal information from children; all personal data stays on the device as described above.
Because Bestå stores your data only on your own device and the developer holds no copy, exercising your rights of access, rectification, and erasure is in your hands: view and edit your profile in the app, or clear the app’s storage to erase everything. For data sent to your chosen AI provider, exercise your rights directly with that provider under their policy. For any privacy question, contact [email protected].
Material changes will be announced in the app’s update notes and reflected here with a new effective date before they take effect.
